Testing of Electrical Components for Commercial Cleaning Equipment

Posted: October 29, 2021

Do you know if your workplace is compliant? It is the duty of care of an employer to ensure the safety of their staff and visitors. This includes limiting the possibility of electric shock by ensuring electrical equipment is in good working order. The best way to do this is with an electrical maintenance program. Voltec Maintenance provides clients with professional test and tag services in Townsville and North-Queensland wide. As electrical safety experts, our services can help your workplace comply with the mandatory Queensland Government safety regulations from faulty electrical equipment and potential electrical dangers.

Electrical Safety Tag Frequency – Cleaning Industry

Depending on your industry you may require more frequent intervals. Under the AS/NZS 3760 legislation, there are minimum time requirements for testing and tagging of equipment. In the cleaning industry, since most equipment is used on a consistent basis, it is recommended to tag and test these appliances every 6 months. Leaving too much time between testing and tagging can lead to dangerous appliances that may break or potentially even cause an injury. These types of work environments can often be extremely busy and fast-paced, and electrical inspections may not be the highest priority. However, neglecting or postponing inspections can potentially have an impact on employee safety.

Electrical Tagging Services at Voltec Maintenance

Many workplaces will have varying test and tag frequencies due to their own risk management policies and OHS regulations. Keeping a consistent testing and tagging schedule is vital in order to keep appliances in good condition. A general test and tag includes:

  • A visual check to ensure there are no obvious problems;
  • A series of electrical tests to ensure the safety of the item;
  • Tagging of the equipment to indicate to users that the item has been identified as safe in accordance with AS/NZS 3760:2010 and when the item is due to be tested again; and
  • A detailed report of testing conducted.

Inspection and testing of electrical equipment must be carried out by a competent person who has the relevant knowledge, skills and qualifications to carry out the relevant inspection and testing. At Voltec Maintenance, our team are qualified electricians who hold all necessary licences to perform test and tag services. We also create a scope of testing during the quoting process to ensure all staff and clients understand what testing needs to be conducted.

Why Choose Voltec Maintenance?
